We understand that medical bills can sometimes be complex and confusing. Like other health care organizations, ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers are required to follow strict billing regulations from the government, insurance companies, and a variety of agencies based on the United States pricing and coding structure.

Our goal is to provide you with clear information about your bill and our billing process. This article attempts to answer some of the most commonly asked questions from our patients. |

How much will I have to pay for my hospitalization or clinic visits? |
Most insurance plans and other programs require the patient to pay some portion of the cost of the care they receive. If you are a member of these programs you will only be responsible for non-covered charges, co-payments, and deductible amounts. If you have insurance or participate in a program, the amount will vary depending upon your specific plan. We normally do not know your portion until we receive the Explanation of Benefits from your plan. Once we know the amount, you will be billed by ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers.

| |
Do I have to pay my co-payment and deductibles? |
Yes. The billing officer will ask for your co-payment or deductibles; you are expected to pay after your consultation. ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers is required by contract and regulation to collect the co-payment and deductibles during your visit. The amount of the co-payment and deductibles varies depending upon the insurance coverage you have and the type of service you receive. The co-payment and deductible amount is determined after we verify your coverage with the insurance company. If we do not have record of your co-payment and deductible information, you will be billed afterwards by ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers once we received the Explanation of Benefits from your plan. It is ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers' regulation and right not to provide service to you if you can not afford to pay the co-payment, deductibles, and other necessary fees.

Will ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers File the Insurance Claim? |
You are legally responsible for your bill at the time you receive services from ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers. However, with your help, ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers will complete the insurance claim form and send it to the insurance company for you. In order to properly complete the insurance claim form we need your help in collecting the information required by your insurance company. The information is gathered from the insurance card you are given by your plan and the registration form that you complete. You should sign your bills and claim forms for every visit.
| |
Should I bring my insurance card with me? |
Yes. The information on your insurance card is needed for ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers to file a claim with your insurance company or companies. When you check in the first time we will ask you for information about your insurance coverage and have you sign any necessary forms. You are required to show your insurance card every time you visit the clinic to avoid delays on your insurance claims due to changes in the provider.
| |
When will I receive a bill? |
The length of time it takes the insurance companies to process a claim varies greatly and can be quite long. Because we do not know the amount for which the patient is responsible we do not bill the patient until the insurance company has paid their portion.
Approximately 3 days after your visit or stay the charges will be sent to your insurance company. The length of time for them to respond to the claim is an average of two months, but may be longer. If the insurance company pays your charges in full, you will not receive a bill. If there is a balance due, you will receive a collection letter with insurance company's explanation of benefits letter indicating that your insurance company has paid their portion of the bill and the amount that they have told us for which you are responsible.
| |
Can I get a bill that itemizes the services I received? |
Yes. If you would like to receive an itemized bill that details all services and charges for those services, you can request one by calling one our billing specialists. Since most insurance carriers no longer require itemized bills, we have discontinued routinely providing this information.
| |
What should I do if I can not pay for the care I need? |
ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers is a for-profit health care organization that is operating under extremely high costs in order to maintain a high quality of health care services. There are alternative local healthcare providers in your area which are able to provide services with lower fees. However, we do not guarantee you would receive the same high quality services as you would do at ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers. ParkwayHealth Medical and Dental Centers will also collect aggressively against individuals who have outstanding balances.
